Contact before visiting
Confirm visiting arrangements and animal availability directly. Some rescues use foster homes, appointments, or a mailing address rather than a public shelter.
About this organization
South Suburban Humane Society's Matteson shelter places dogs and cats with adopters and supports pets across south Chicagoland.
How adoption works
Visit the shelter without a pre-application or appointment and bring valid photo identification. Staff encourage family and resident-pet introductions. Adopted dogs must leave with a collar and leash; check the cat adoption guidance for cat-specific requirements.
Meeting the animals
Adoption hours are Monday and Wednesday–Friday, noon–7 pm, and Saturday–Sunday, noon–5 pm; closed Tuesday. Check the chosen animal's location first because some live in foster homes. Adoption hours differ from the appointment-based resource and intake center.
